ASIMO was unveiled in October 2000 after development began in 1999 and building on Honda's earlier E and P series. Four generations followed through 2011, reaching 57 DoF and a running speed of 9 km/h. Honda stopped ASIMO development in July 2018 and its last active appearance was in March 2022, when its retirement was announced. Honda said it would concentrate on remote-controlled, avatar-style robotics.
Our verdict
